Family Dentistry
At Contemporary Dentistry, we enjoy taking care of your entire family. We believe that
positive dental experiences at an early age are important to your child's long term commitment to dental health. We see children beginning at age 3 in our office, and will
recommend a Pediatric Dentist for younger children or those with specialized needs.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a great way to protect tiny grooves in young teeth from decay-causing bacteria
and sugar. A special plastic coating is painted over the surface of the tooth and hardened
using a bright light - no drilling required!
Mercury-free Dentistry
For many years in dentistry, a material called dental "amalgam" was used for dental fillings. More commonly known as the "silver fillings", this material
was composed of various metals including mercury, a chemical element
that is known to be toxic to the human body.
Improvements in the development of high-durability composite resin
materials over the past several years have made the use of mercury
fillings unnecessary today. Some insurance companies continue to use
amalgam fillings as a basis for reimbursment of dental fillings, often at a
lesser rate than composite fillings.
At Contemporary Dentistry, your health and safety come first. All of the
filling materials that we use are mercury-free. We invite any questions you may have regarding the use of mercury-based materials in dentistry.
Healthy Gums

|
Your gums perform an important function in your body. They protect
and provide support for your teeth, as well as provide blood flow to the
jaw bone and tooth structures.
Periodontitis is a progressive disease that begins when bacteria
penetrate and grow beneath the gums. As the disease spreads, gum
tissue and eventually bone is destroyed. If left untreated, periodontal
disease will erode enough bone and gum tissue so that the affected
teeth become loose and literally fall out.
The Good News
If detected early through regular dental checkups, the progress of
periodontal disease can often be arrested through nonsurgical gum
treatments and meticulous home care. In some cases, surgical
procedures can be used to treat bone loss or advanced penetration of
the infection.
At your dental checkup, we will use a special instrument that is
calibrated to measure the space between your teeth and gums. This
process will reveal any abnormal "pockets" - an indication of areas of
gum disease in need of treatment.
Take Care of Yourself Prevention and early treatment of periodontal disease is not just about
saving teeth - the bacteria that cause periodontal disease have been
linked to diabetes, heart disease, and pre-term and low birth weight
babies.
Common signs of periodontal disease are bleeding and swollen
gums, persistent bad breath, and gum recession.
The key is detection - contact us today to schedule a comprehensive
dental examination so that we can measure your gums and determine
your periodontal "score".
