Tooth Restoration
The first step in tooth restoration is diagnosis. After a thorough examination including bite, gum and tooth density measurements, diagnostic casts and xrays, we will recommend services to restore your teeth to proper biting strength.
Restorative Services featured in Our Office include:
Dental Fillings
When a tooth needs minor repair, a dental filling may be used. At Contemporary Dentistry, we use tooth-colored composite materials for our fillings. These materials are specially designed to safely adhere to tooth structure, and allow us to carefully mold and shape the filling to fit your bite.
Dental Crowns
When the overall strength of a tooth has been compromised due to broken fillings, decay, root canal or trauma, a crown may be recommended to protect the remaining tooth structure from further damage. A crown covers the entire surface of the tooth, and is made of gold, metal, or porcelain. In constructing a crown, Dr. Woollery has high standards of form, fit and function. A crown must:
- Look esthetically pleasing to the eye.
- Fit well on the tooth and within the balance of the bite.
- Have enough supporting tooth stucture that is properly shaped to sustain biting forces.
Dr. Woollery works closely with our dental laboratory, Utah Valley Dental Lab, because of their
commitment to creating the highest quality restoration possible.
Inlays & Onlays
When tooth damage involves biting surfaces, onlays and inlays are often preferred. First,
the damaged area of the tooth is removed and re-shaped for a restoration and engineered to maximize existing supporting structures while not weakening the tooth. Dr. Woollery then sends her design and instructions to the dental laboratory, where the inlay or onlay is fabricated to specification. Inlays and onlays are made of gold or metal or other material. Ask about porcelain inlays for a beautiful, natural-looking result!
Root Canal Therapy
If a tooth is damaged due to decay or trauma, sometimes the nerve of the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. When this occurs, a root canal procedure becomes necessary.
Root Canal Therapy involves making a small opening in the tooth and removing the infected nerve from each tooth root. The root canals are first cleaned and disinfected using tiny instruments, and then
sealed with special materials in order to support the canal walls in the absence of the nerve.
Because removing the tooth nerve also eliminates blood flow to the tooth, a tooth
that has had a root canal loses vitality and requires extra protection from a crown.
If a root canal is necessary to save a tooth, Dr. Woollery may recommend a root canal specialist, or Endodontist. The Endodontist will perform the root canal in coordination with Dr. Woollery, who will construct a custom-fitted crown for the tooth.
